2D Floor Plans – With Transparent Background

 

This article shows some cool options for transparent backgrounds for your 2D Floor Plans. Choose transparency for parts of your floor plan, then when you place it on top of another image, the lower image shows through the transparent portions of your floor plan! This gives you lots of creative ways to produce sleek and modern marketing presentations. Available for Pro and Team.

 

Example 1 – Transparent Background and Floor 

In this example, we placed a transparent floor plan on top of a colored image. All the transparent areas show through. Notice that the furniture is NOT transparent, but the floor and background is.

To set a transparent background and floor:

  1. Draw up your floor plan in the RoomSketcher App. 
  2. In your RoomSketcher Account on the web, open Account Profile Settings.
  3. Click the 2D Floor Plan tab.
  4. Click the pencil to the right of Background Color, click Transparent, and click OK.
    Tip: It's a good idea to set the Background Color as well. See Set a Color Along with Transparent (Optional) below.
  5. Click the pencil to the right of Floor Color, click Transparent, and click OK.

  6. Here are the settings we used for this example.

  7. On the 2D Floor Plan tab, click Apply
  8. In the RoomSketcher App, Preview your floor plan, and when it's ready, Generate it.

To download a transparent floor plan in the App

  1. Click the main Menu (yellow button at the top left) and under Project, click 2D Floor Plans.
  2. The 2D Floor Plan page appears. Click Save to Disk.
  3. Choose one of the Web Image options.

    Letterhead doesn't support transparent background.

  4. Click Save to Disk

  5. Your floor plan with transparent background downloads as png file. 

To generate and download from your Web-Account

  1. In your RoomSketcher Account on the web, go to the project and Generate your 2D Floor Plan
  2. Go to Download 2D Floor Plans.
  3. Choose Web Image. The Image Settings is already set to Automatic which creates a PNG file with transparent background.
  4. Click the Download symbol mceclip1.png to download the 2D Floor Plan.

Only Web Image format and PNG files support transparency. JPG and PDF do not.

 

Example 2 – Transparent Background, Floor, Windows and Furniture

In this example, the background color, floor color and fill colors for the block arrow, windows and furniture is set to transparent so that the photo below the floor plan shows through.

To set transparent like this example:

  1. Follow steps 1-5 from example 1.  
  2. Here are the settings we used for this example.

  3. On the 2D Floor Plan tab, click Apply
  4. In the RoomSketcher App, Preview your floor plan, and when it's ready, Generate it.

 

Example 3 – Transparent Background Only

You can set just the background around the floor plan as transparent. This is useful for placing one floor plan on top of another floor plan.

To set transparent like this example:

  1. Follow steps 1-4 from example 1.  
  2. Here are the settings we used for this example.

  3. On the 2D Floor Plan tab, click Apply
  4. In the RoomSketcher App, Preview your floor plan, and when it's ready, Generate it.
