In the RoomSketcher App, you can add stairs between floors/levels. The article shows our recommended process to build a multi-level project with stairs:

• Add Stairs on the Lower Floor/Level
• Create the Upper Floor/Level Based on the Level Below
• Add Railings to the Upper-Level Stair Opening

Step 1 – Add Stairs on the Lower Floor/Level

1. Open the RoomSketcher App and draw the room or floor plan that will contain stairs.
2. Switch to Windows etc mode and open the Stairs category.
   
   
   
   Tip: You can hover over a stair in the library to see how many steps the stair has.
   
   
3. Click a stair to select it, and click on the floor plan to place it close to the desired location.
4. Fine tune the location: press and drag the stair to move it, and use the curved arrows to rotate the object.
   Tip: The red dot indicates the highest point of the stair.
5. With the stair selected, its Properties appear on the right. Make sure that the Floor to Ceiling option is ON (so that the stair height matches the wall height).
6. Since this stair is on the lower floor, make sure the Type is set to Above Floor (so that the stair goes up to the next floor, rather than down).
   
   
   
   
7. (Optional) Turn Show Left Railing (the railing on the left as you go up the stairs) and Show Right Railing (the railing on the right as you go up the stairs) ON or OFF depending on which railings your stair will have.
8. (Optional) Adjust the width and length if needed, and use Flip Stairs to adjust a (non-straight) stair so that it turns to the right or left.
9. Position the camera and take a snapshot to view the stairs on the lower floor. At this point, without any customization, your stairs may look like this:
   
   
   
   
10. Click Save.
11. (Optional) If you have a Pro or Team subscription, you can Replace Materials on the various stair elements. If you are planning to customize the color or materials on your stairs, it's a good idea to do so now before you create the next level. 

Step 2 – Create the Upper Floor/Level Based on the Level Below

When you create the upper level based on the level below it, the stairs that you added to the lower level will appear on the upper level in the same location. 

1. Click Level, and then New Level.
   
   
   
   
2. To the right of Start from Scratch, click the picture of the previous floor/level to use it as a template for the new floor/level.
   
   
   
   
3. The upper floor/level appears. Open Windows etc mode. Notice that the stairs are in the same location.
4. Click the stair to see its Properties on the right.
5. For Type, click Below Floor. This means the stairs will be going down.
   
   
   
   
6. At this point, you can add, remove, or move walls, windows and other elements of this floor/level of your design, or you can move on to Step 3 - Add railings to the stair opening.

Step 3 – Add Railings to the Upper-Level Stair Opening

The upper floor or level will have an opening in the floor for the stairs. Here's how to add a railing to the opening.

1. Open Walls mode. 
2. Click Menu and under View, click Always Furniture. This allows you to see the stair (and any furniture you have placed on the level) in any mode.
3. Click the Divider tool and draw a divider line around the stairwell opening where the railing will be placed.
   
   
   
   
4. Click Select .
5. Click a divider line segment to select it, and then click Railing (on the right).
   
   
   
   
6. The Select Railing page appears. Click a railing style to select it and then click Apply.
   
   
   
   
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for any other divider line segments.

When you are done, position the camera and take a snapshot to view the stairs on the upper floor. Without any customizations, the stairs may look like this:
