When you draw your floor plan in RoomSketcher, you’re working at real-world 1:1 scale — meaning the digital plan matches actual sizes. When downloading or printing, you can then choose various formats, sizes as well as a scale (e.g., 1/2"=1'-0"). This ensures measurements stay accurate and the layout prints correctly to scale.
This video takes you through the steps, or read along for all details.

Read more about Letterhead options and how to set it up here.
Letterhead options:
- Letterhead: Standard - The floor plan is downloaded on a letterhead, in no specific scale.
- Letterhead: Keep Relative Size - available for multi-level projects; the relative size between the floor plans for each level is maintained, i.e. the level with the smallest footprint in the project will also have the smallest footprint when saved/printed.
-
Letterhead: Combined - available for multi-level projects; use this option if you want all levels of your project to appear together on one page.
- Example: If your project has two floors, choosing this option will generate one page showing both floor plans together.
Scale
You can save your floor plans to a precise, printable scale by choosing a letterhead with a built-in scale. This makes it easy to share drawings that accurately represent real-life measurements.
Here's how you can do it
Choose a letterhead options with a scale when you save your floor plan as a PDF. For example, selecting 1/2" = 1'-0" means that half an inch on the drawing represents one foot in real life.
A few important things to know
- Scale options are only available when saving as a PDF and choosing Save to Disk.
- Scale options are not available on tablets.
- The scale is also added automatically to the title of your drawing, shown in parentheses.
For example: 71 Mainstreet (1/2" = 1'-0") - If you want to clearly show distances on your floor plan, you can add a scale bar, or also called a measuring tape in the RoomSketcher App. You’ll find the measuring tape under Symbols, Text and Lines, please find more information here: How Can I Add Annotation, Text and Helper Symbols to My Floor Plan?
- If you see Invalid Paper Size as the file name, the selected scale doesn’t fit on the chosen paper size. Try switching to a larger paper size or a different scale.
Printing your scaled floor plan
- Once you have saved your scaled floor plan to your computer or Mac, you can print the PDF.
- Make sure to select Actual size in your printer settings. If you don't, the printer may adjust the size automatically, which will throw off the scale because built-in page margins.
