Are you ready to dress the windows in your floor plans and models with curtains, drapes, sheers, or blinds? This article describes the steps when using the RoomSketcher App on a computer or tablet, and covers how to:

• Find and Add Window Treatments
• Size Window Treatments
• Set Treatment Height

Find and Add Window Treatments

RoomSketcher includes curtains, drapes, blinds, and roman shades to use in your projects.

1. Open or create a project (with windows to dress) in the RoomSketcher App.
2. Open Furniture mode (click the red Mode button and click Furniture).
3. Click the Search button and type Curtain, Drape, Blind, or Shade. A library of window treatments appears.
   
   
   
   
4. Simply click a treatment to select it and click to place it (or drag it onto your plan).
5. If needed, use the curved blue arrow to rotate the window treatment and drag to place it in front of the window you wish to dress.
   
   
   

Size Window Treatments

To size a window treatment, first determine the size of your window, then size the window treatment.

To determine the size of the window

1. Open Windows Etc. mode.
2. On your floor plan, click to select the window you want to dress. Its Properties appear on the right.
3. Note the Width, Length and Height Above Floor for the window. Note: Window width and height dimensions include the window trim.
   
   
   
   

Now, size the window treatment

1. Switch to Furniture mode.
2. Click the window treatment that you placed in front of the window. Its Properties appear on the right.
3. Type the Width,Height and Height Above Floor for the treatment. (See more information on calculating the Height Above Floor setting next).
   
   
   

Helpful Sizing Tips:

• Size As Usual – Size your virtual window treatment the same way you would size an actual window treatment, i.e. include the typical extra dimensions you would for width at the sides of your window and height clearances above the top of the window trim.
• Drapery – If the drapery has a rod. The width field in RoomSketcher includes the length of the rod.
• Blinds – If you want less of your window covered by a blind or roman shade- reduce the shade Height. Note: If shade has a fabric pattern, this may cause distortion of the pattern.

Set Treatment Height

To place your window treatment at the correct height, you will need to determine the window's Top of Window height, then determine how much higher the treatment should sit, and then adjust the Height Above Floor or Height (length) of the treatment.

Determine Top of Window Height

1. In Windows, Etc. mode, click to select the window you want to dress.
2. Open Properties. The Properties for the window appear.
   
   
   
   
3. Determine the Top of Window Height: RoomSketcher windows are placed according to sill height ( in other words, Height Above Floor). To determine the Top of Window Height, add these two dimensions:
   Height Above Floor + Height = Top of Window Height, including trim
   Using the example above, 900 mm + 1200 mm = 2100 mm = the height at the top of the window, including the trim.

Determine your desired Top of Treatment Height

• Determine your desired Top of Treatment Height: Top of Treatment Height is often the same height as, or slightly higher than, the Top of Window Height. Pick the Top of Treatment Height based on your preferences. For our example, we will use 2100 mm.

Calculate and set the Height Above Floor setting for the treatment

There are several ways to affect the height of the treatment:

1. You can set the Height Above Floor for the treatment. This method is useful if your treatment does not fall all the way to the floor (for example, a shade/blind or curtains that do not hang all the way to the floor).
2. You can change the Height of the treatment. This method is useful if your treatment does hang all the way to the floor.
3. You can also use a combination of the above two.

Height Above Floor method

Use this formula:
Top of Treatment Height - Height (of the treatment) = Height Above Floor (for treatment).

1. Determine the required Height Above Floor setting for the treatment.
   Say we are adding a roman blind with a Height of 682 mm. Using the above Casement Window example: 2100 mm (Top of Treatment height) - 682 (Height of this particular treatment) = 1418 mm Height Above Floor.
2. In Furniture mode, click the window treatment that you placed in front of the Casement window. Type the Height Above Floor (in our example, 1418) for the treatment.
   
   
   
   
3. Take a snapshot to check your results in 3D.
   
   
   
   

Height method

Use this formula:
Height Above Floor + Height = Top of Treatment Height

1. If the treatment is a curtain that will hang all the way to the floor, leave Height Above Floor at 0 and instead adjust the Height (length of the treatment). Using our example of a Top of Treatment height of 2100 mm, we could set the Height of the curtain to 2100.
