How Do I Draw a Wall To an Exact Length Right Away?
If you already know the exact measurement you need, you can draw the wall right away with the precise length.
- In the RoomSketcher App, open Walls mode and choose either the Exterior Wall or Interior Wall tool.
- Click to set the starting point, then move your cursor in the direction you want the wall to go.
- As you draw, the wall length of the wall is displayed above and below of the wall.
- When the wall reaches the desired length, click again to place it.
How Can I Adjust an Existing Wall to an Exact Length?
If you’ve already placed your walls but want to fine-tune them, you can easily edit their measurements:
- In the RoomSketcher App, open Walls mode and draw one or more walls.
- Click the Select tool.
- Hover over any wall to see the wall length.
Note: Each side of a wall is slightly different in length. In this example, Side A (5.57 m) is the length of the inside wall, and Side B (5.97 m) is the length of the outside wall.
- To enter an exact wall length, click or tap a wall end so that arrows appear. Then, type the exact length in the boxes to the right. Note: The length will increase or decrease on the side with the arrows.
- Press Enter on your keyboard or click/tap outside of the Length box. The wall adjusts to the exact length.
What Do I Need to Know about Connected Walls?
In some cases, when you change the length of one wall, it will also adjust the length of walls connected to it.
Here are our top tips for managing this:
- Think ahead about how changing one wall length will affect other walls in your layout.
- Work from the middle out — start with central walls and adjust outward to keep measurements consistent.
When a wall is connected at a non-90-degree angle, you won’t be able to adjust its length. A message will appear saying Unable to change length of selected wall.
What About Very Short Walls?
In RoomSketcher, the shortest wall length you can enter is 4 inches (100 mm). If you need a shorter wall, we recommend zooming in on the drawing and then manually adjusting the wall length with your mouse — this works if the wall is not connected to another wall.
