How Can I Add Furniture or Wall Items on Top of Each Other?

  • Updated

It's easy to stack furniture (for example, place a lamp or vase on a table) or stack wall items (for example, place a television above a fireplace) - you simply adjust the Height Above Floor of the upper item using its properties.

How Do I Stack Furniture?

When you stack furniture, typically the higher item will be placed directly on, or at the height of, the lower item.

  1. Place the lower item that will be stacked on your floor plan.
  2. Click the lower item to select it. Its Properties appear on the right.
  3. Note the Height of the lower item. For example, the height of the selected dining table is 742 mm.

  4. Now place the higher item onto your project, and move it on top of the lower item.
Many items automatically drop on top of the item it is placed. You can check this with the following steps:
  5. Select the higher item so that its Properties appear on the right.
  6. Ensure that the Height Above Floor is the same height as the lower item. If not, change the Height Above Floor so that it is the same as the Height of the item below.

Tip: It’s a good idea to set Lock Height Above Floor to ON.
  7. Take a snapshot to check the location of your items.

Tip: If you want to select an item that is completely covered by another, first move the item on top slightly aside to reveal the one underneath. Before doing this, make sure the Height Above Floor property of the top item is locked. This ensures that it retains its intended elevation when you move it back into place.

How Do I Stack Items on a Wall?

When you stack items on a wall, you will typically want vertical space between the lower and upper item, so adjust the Height Above Floor accordingly.

  1. Place the lower item that will be stacked on your project (in this example, the fireplace).
  2. Click the lower item (the fireplace) to select it. Its Properties appear on the right.
  3. Note the Height of the lower item. For example, the height of the selected fireplace below is 1000 mm.

  4. Now place the higher item onto your project and place it above the lower item (in this example, the TV).
  5. Select the higher item (the TV) so that its Properties appear on the right.
  6. Set the Height Above Floor (since you are placing items on the wall, you will likely want some space between them). In this example, the fireplace has a height of 1000 mm and we will set the Height Above Floor of the TV to 1200 mm.

Tip: It’s a good idea to set Lock Height Above Floor to ON.
  7. Take a snapshot to check your items.
