Can I Create Accessible Floor Plans in the RoomSketcher App?

wheelchair in a bathroom.pngRoomSketcher includes several furniture items and symbols that can help you create accessible floor plans. Use these items to visualize mobility aids, turning space, grab bars, roll-in showers, and more.

You can find the items in the RoomSketcher App under Furniture mode.

Here are your options:

 

Add Mobility Aids

Use mobility aids to show how a room may work for wheelchair users or people using a walker. The library includes one wheelchair and three walkers. 

To add a wheelchair or walker

  1. Open your project in the RoomSketcher App.
  2. Open Furniture mode.
  3. Search for Wheelchair or Walker.
  4. Drag the item onto your floor plan.
  5. Resize or rotate it as needed.

Show Floor Spaces with Circles and Rectangles

RoomSketcher also includes dotted-line symbols you can use on 2D and 3D Floor Plans to clearly mark floor space.

Available items include a wheelchair circle in two sizes, and a wheelchair rectangle.

Use these to show turning areas or required clear space in bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, and other rooms.

To add a circle or rectangle

  1. Open your project in the RoomSketcher App.
  2. Open Furniture mode.
  3. Search for Wheelchair Circle or Wheelchair Rectangle.
  4. Drag the symbol onto the floor plan.
  5. Place it where you want to show accessible clearance.

Tip: These symbols are especially helpful when you want to communicate open space clearly on a 2D Floor Plan.

Add a Wheelchair Ramp

You can add wheelchair ramps to show accessible entrances or level changes.

To add a wheelchair ramp

  1. Open your project in the RoomSketcher App.
  2. Open Furniture mode.
  3. Search for Wheelchair Ramp.
  4. Drag the item onto the floor plan.
  5. Resize or rotate it as needed.

Add Grab Bars

Grab bars are available for accessible bathrooms and can be used near showers, bathtubs, and toilets.

You can add single grab bars, or use accessible toilet items that already include grab bars.

To find them

  1. Open your project in the RoomSketcher App.
  2. Open Furniture mode.
  3. Search for grab and choose from Bathroom Grab Bar, Brab Bar with Towel, or Toilet Grab Bar.
    or: search for Toilet - Accessible to find a toilet with grab bars. 
  4. Drag the item into place.
  5. Rotate and position it next to the shower, bathtub, or toilet.

Add a Shower Seat

RoomSketcher includes shower seat items that can help you design accessible shower areas. Available items include an open and closed shower seat.

To add a shower seat

  1. Open your project in the RoomSketcher App.
  2. Open Furniture mode.
  3. Search for Shower Seat.
  4. Drag the item into the shower area and position it against the wall.

Create a Roll-in Shower

You can use shower enclosure items to create roll-in showers and accessible shower layouts.

To create a roll-in shower

  1. Add your bathroom walls and flooring.
  2. Open Furniture mode.
  3. Search for Shower Enclosure.
  4. Choose the enclosure item that fits your layout.
  5. (Optional) Add grab bars and a shower seat if needed.
  6. (Optional) Use a Wheelchair Circle or Wheelchair Rectangle to show clear floor space.
