Overview: What Measurements Can I Add to My Floor Plans?

RoomSketcher floor plans make it easy to include detailed measurements to help you easily understand room sizes and dimensions. You can choose which measurements to show and customize how they appear, so your floor plans look professional and clear when you print and download them.

What Types of Measurements Can I Show on My Floor Plans?

In the RoomSketcher App, you can choose from a variety of measurement options depending on what you want to highlight:

How Can I Show the Room Area in Square Feet or Square Meters?

You can display the area of any room in either square feet or square meters – whichever you prefer. It'll look like this:

How Can I Show Room Dimensions? (Available for Pro and Team)

If you want to show the width and length of a room, often called X and Y dimensions, you can! It will look like this:

  • To achieve the above example, go to the Measurement Wizard Settings in the RoomSketcher App, enable Dimensions - Use both Measuring Units, and then use the Room Dimensions Wizard to add them. For detailed steps, see Measurement Wizard Settings.

How Can I Show the Inside Wall Lengths? (Available for Pro and Team)

You can show the inside lengths of your walls directly on your 2D Floor Plans. This is a great way to make sure everything fits just right. Here’s how it can look:

How Can I Show the Outside Wall Lengths? (Available for Pro and Team)

You can also display the exterior wall measurements on your 2D Floor Plans, like this:

How Can I Add Single Wall Measurements? (Available for Pro and Team)

With the RoomSketcher App, you can display lengths on one specific wall, either inside or outside. Here’s an example:

How Can I Calculate the Total Area of a Floor Plan? (Available for Pro and Team)

You can calculate the total area of an entire floor plan or the gross floor area and add it to your floor plan, like this:

How Can I Measure the Distance Between Two Items?

Whether you’re measuring the space between a bed and a wall or between two pieces of furniture, you can display it directly on your plan. It might look like this:

How Can I Add Measurements to Fixed Installations, Windows, or Doors?

You can show specific measurements for things like cabinetry, windows, and doors like this in the RoomSketcher App:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I include multiple measurement types at once?
Yes, with RoomSketcher, you can enable all the measurement options you need at the same time to create a fully detailed floor plan.

Where do I find the measurement wizards?
You find the Measurement Wizards under Windows etc. mode.

Can I add measurements to doors and windows?
Absolutely, you can use the Tape Measure tool in the RoomSketcher App to add measurements to doors, windows, and other items, just like you’ll see in Measure the Distance Between Two Items.

Are measurements visible in Live 3D or 3D Photos?
Measurements are shown on 2D Floor Plans, not in Live 3D or 3D Photos.

How can I print my 2D Floor Plans with all measurements or all dimensions?
First, add your measurements by following the steps outlined here. Then, generate and print your 2D Floor Plan — all your measurements will appear on the printout when they were added to the floor plan.

Can I add measurements with a Free RoomSketcher account?
Yes, you can. With a Free account, you can use the Tape Measure tool (as shown in Measure the Distance Between Two Items) and display the area of a room (explained in Show Square Feet or Square Meters of a Room). If you want to use the other measurement tools, such as the Measurement Wizards, please upgrade to a Pro or Team subscription.
